Student Visa

To study in the United Kingdom as an international student, a Student visa is required. Your visa allows you to reside in the country for the duration of your course.

To apply, you must have an offer from a recognised higher education provider and meet the financial requirements. The application process involves submitting relevant documents, including a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your university. Understanding and fulfilling these requirements is crucial for a successful application and ensuring your stay in the UK for your studies.

Additionally, the UK offers a Graduate Route visa for postgraduate students, allowing them to stay and work in the UK for up to two years after completing their degree.

Eligibility

  • You must have an offer from a recognised UK higher education provider.

Required Documents

  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the university
  • Proof of financial capability
  • Valid passport
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE etc)
  • Tuberculosis test results (if applicable)

Processing Time

Applications typically take between 3-6 weeks, but this can vary depending on the country and specific circumstances.

Visa Application Fee

The visa application fee varies depending on the type of visa and country of application. For a Tier 4 (General) student visa, the fee is:

  • Β£490 to apply for a Student visa from outside the UK
  • Β£490 to extend or switch to a Student visa from inside the UK

You must pay the visa fee for each person that joins you.

Immigration Healthcare Surcharge (IHS)

International students typically need to pay a healthcare surcharge as part of their visa application. This allows access to the National Health Service (NHS) during their stay in the UK. The surcharge is currently Β£776 per year for most students.

You can calculate your total cost using the equation below:

Total Visa Cost = 𝐢 + (𝑁 Γ— 𝐻) + 𝐸 + 𝑇 + (𝐷 Γ— 𝐻 Γ— 𝑁)

  • C = visa application fee
  • 𝐻 = healthcare surcharge per year
  • 𝐸 = English language test cost (if applicable)
  • 𝑇 = TB test cost (if applicable)
  • 𝐷 = number of dependants
  • 𝑁 = course duration in years
